FAQs

  • A traditional cosmetic nail treatment focuses simply on the appearance of your nails and skin, which can ignore the problem areas or even create them. Regular salons often perform procedures which are damaging to the nail and can cause bacterial, fungal or viral infections. Often, their equipment is not single-use or properly sterilized between clients so the spread of germs is quite common.

Unlike these traditional nail salons, our professionals are trained to examine your feet and nails using advanced equipment and instruments, and follow the strictest hygiene protocols in the private setting of one of British Columbia’s premier medical offices. Advancements in medicine and aesthetics are constantly applied to our processes (eg: the use of sunscreen during the application of our gel polishes.) Not only will your nails and skin look and feel great, but you can actually relax and enjoy your treatment knowing you are in capable and trusted hands.

We also understand the hesitation some people have about visiting salons as their hands or feet are on display for everyone to see. This is why we have private rooms for our services so you can rest assured that your privacy is protected.

  • The treatment is performed by a trained medical nail esthetician. After an evaluation of your feet, depending on the service being performed, the feet are cleaned, nails are trimmed and buffed, and if necessary, calluses and corns (thick skin) are removed. The feet are then moisturized using our all natural, locally handcrafted body souffle or lotion. Our signature service includes an exfoliating scrub and hydrating massage as well as a paraffin treatment to lock in moisture. Services can range from 20 to 90 minutes depending on the condition of your feet and the chosen service.

Note: To maintain a near-sterile process and reduce your chances of infection, we do not soak the feet. Foot soaks are often breeding grounds for bacteria and fungus and there is no way to sterilize or adequately clean the baths between clients. However, our signature and express services include a hot towel foot cleanse.

  • It’s more than just cosmetic. A medical pedicure has all the benefits of a regular pedicure but also has the added benefit of following the strictest hygiene protocols. In fact, we follow the same protocols for hygiene and sterilization that a Surgeon would use for their procedures. This reduces your chances of getting a bacterial, viral or fungal infection which are readily found at salons.

Our technicians have the added benefit of being educated by Podiatrists on what to look for and how to deal with specific pathologies such as diabetic feet or those who have poor circulation. If we spot something of concern, a suggestion to see one of the foot and ankle doctors can be made.

  • Our standards for hygiene and sterilization are the best in the business. All equipment goes through autoclave sterilization. We follow the hygiene and sterilization protocols that the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia utilizes for doctor’s offices and surgical suites in the province. Items which cannot be sterilized, such as nail files, burrs, buffing blocks and nail polish brushes are single-use and will be discarded or provided to the patient after each visit.

  • We see men and women of all ages. Regardless of foot condition, the comfort of a pedicure with the added safety of medical-grade sterilization brings satisfaction and peace of mind that is unparalleled. Clients with diabetes or who are immunocompromised are particularly well-suited, as are individuals who are health-conscious and concerned about infections from regular pedicures. We won’t refuse our services to anyone as we have the tools and knowledge to see nail conditions of all types.

  • Nail polish which is used from client to client is a common way to spread bacterial and fungal infections. We pride ourselves on our sterile, hygienic application of polish to ensure our clients keep their nails healthy. Your polish of choice will be poured into a sterile dish and will be applied using disposable nail polish applicators that are discarded after each client.

We offer an extensive selection of polishes from the Dr’s. Remedy collection and will offer a 10% discount on any bottles of Dr’s. Remedy polish bought on the day of your service. We carry a wide range of Akzentz gel polishes for you to choose from as well - these are not for purchase. You are also welcome to bring your own polish to your treatment.

  • Your treatments will be performed by a trained nail technician who has undergone further training in foot pathologies as well as sterilization standards. Although this service is performed by a trained professional in a doctor’s office, it is not a doctor performing the service and no diagnoses can be made about any foot conditions you may or may not have. As such, this service is not covered by the Medical Services Plan (MSP) of British Columbia. It is unlikely that your extended benefits would pay for this service either as it is an esthetic service, however every insurance provider and plan is different and we would encourage you to reach out to your carrier to establish this. If you have questions or concerns regarding your feet which require the attention of a Podiatrist / Foot and Ankle Surgeon, we would recommend you see one of the doctors at the Vancouver Foot and Ankle Clinic.

  • Studies show that curing lamps used during the process of applying gel polishes to your nails can increase your chances of certain types of skin cancer. To reduce this harm, we apply a broad spectrum, hypoallergenic, fragrance and alcohol free sunblock to your hands or feet. This is one of the many ways we combine medicine with aesthetics.
